The Social Media Solution

The Social Media Solution Header - A Beginner's Guide to Understanding the importance of Social Media for Business
By // Amy Bobo

Social media has changed throughout the years. It used to be enough to just have a website. Now, however, if you don’t have active accounts on several platforms, you might never get noticed. Most people spend so much time looking at their phones these days, and the best way to gain exposure for your business is to be right where your audience is looking. An active presence on social media can allow you to interact with your current customers and build relationships with new customers as well.

Social media accounts are easy to set up, but if you don’t know how to run them properly, they can negatively affect your business. You have to know what content to promote, what platform to use, and how often and what time of day to post in order to be effective. So where do you start?

Begin by asking yourself some valuable questions:

   • Who is my audience?
   • What message do I want to send?
   • How do I want to send it?
   • What are my goals?

Next, create a game plan. It’s ok to start small. Don’t feel like you need to make an account on every single social media platform out there. Do some research on the different types of social media to figure out what makes the most sense for your business.

Next, consider your message and how you are portraying it. Check out what your competitors are doing on their social media pages to get some ideas. Learn what your customers are looking for and tailor your content to their needs. Some ideas for content are promotional posts, client testimonials, user-generated content, events, a look behind the scenes, and more.

Something else to think about is how often you are posting and when. It is possible to post too often. You don’t want to overwhelm your audience. Also don’t forget to think about the time of day you are posting. Ask yourself “When will my users be most likely to engage online?” When it comes to posting, remember quality over quantity, and consistency over frequency. There are many websites and apps that offer scheduling tools so that you can plan a month’s worth of posts at once instead of having to think about it daily or even weekly.
